The exterior is capped by a curved slim line metal roof with a slight tilt, the roof line is visible from the clerestory windows and defines the open plan living area below it.
The design intent is to provide a home that is filled with natural light, with spaces that are open to interpretation and our client’s self expression. Light enters the home in different ways to create a dynamic medium which changes our perception of the interior with time. Social spaces are bright and airy. The dining area features an apple gum table, handcrafted from a single large piece of timber, personally selected by our client from Christian Cole Furniture.
Care was taken in detailing the structure and concrete panel drawings, as the concrete panels are both structure and envelope, articulated both inside and outside of the home. Stone and polished concrete form a tactile and textural backdrop within the interior.
Quiet areas are expressed in monochrome with restraint and simplicity in mind. Lighting provides accent in this contemplative space- the surfaces are neatly flushed, traditional trims and moldings are replaced with concealed jambs and reveals, shadowline details and square edges. Timber is used in the entry and furniture for warmth. Timber, concrete and marble are presented in their purest state to denote a simple elegance that is both durable and engaging. Subtle color changes due to shifts in natural lighting provides complexity in this pared back palette and precise detailing.
